Iconic Wedding Dresses: Our Favorite Five!

September 27, 2017

Every fashion lover knows, that fashion recycles. Everything comes back into style eventually, but usually with a modern twist. Sometimes taking notes from past fashionistas can be the perfect inspiration or guideline to finding a current yet classic look. When thinking of iconic wedding dresses, there are many that come to mind, but we have compiled a list of our personal favorites.

First on that list is everyone’s favorite princess, Princess Diana. The woman whose empathy and intelligence captured the hearts of the world, was married to Prince Charles of Wales in the summer of 1981. She wore a true 80’s masterpiece complete with a ruffled satin collar and sleeves too match. She was followed by a 25 foot train and cathedral length tulle veil.

Next on our list is the Queen of Rock n Roll. Priscilla Presley was married to Elvis Presley in 1967 in Sin City, Las Vegas Nevada. The dress, designed by the bride herself, was a white sheath style with long embellished sleeves. The simple and timeless gown is still a staple in many bride stores today.

Bianca Jagger, wife of another rockstar, Mick Jagger, wore an equally timeless look. However, her Yves Saint Laurent wedding suit was a sexy, edgy, twist on the classic wedding gown. She wore an ivory blazer with a plunging neckline and single button. Then completed the look with a matching tea length shift skirt. The daring two-piece suit set was topped with a wide brimmed hat and veil.

For our next bride were jumping forward a few decades to another Princess, or Duchess.  In 2011, Kate Middleton lived every little girl’s childhood dream, and married Prince William making the Duchess of Cambridge. For the ceremony the bride wore a lace long sleeve ballgown, with a v neckline and slight collar. She added a diamond crown attached to a chapel length veil for a very regal touch. Her gown created almost as much buzz as the wedding itself and has since been the inspiration for countless brides.

The last (but definitely not least expensive) is a wedding that never actually took place. The fictional wedding of Carrie Bradshaw and John James Preston, more commonly known as “Mr.Big” was one to be remembered. The “Sex and the City” couple were to be married in a beautiful New York Library which, (SPOILER ALERT) never ends up happening. However, the dress was one thing that totally worked. The gorgeous satin Vivian Westwood ballgown featured a peaked bodice, and layered pinned skirt. The label loving bride wore an ionic turquoise peacock feather and fluffy tulle veil to complete her look.
